Tutorial for scripting program 2009

  • Point-and-click to update and navigate
Quick hints for updating your routine. Notice the buttons at the bottom to navigate between different sections of the selection list. For updates, all it take is one click to insert/delete an entire row of body or apparatus difficultyand shift everything automatically - you should not have to manually shift anything.
  • Saving your work via EXPORT and IMPORT
Learn how to save your routines should be one of the first thing to learn so that you can update the routine over and over again with minimum work.
  • Printing your judging form
Creating the judging form (script) is the reason for the program's existence. This tutorial shows you some often missed details.
If you are using the latest FireFox or Internet Explorer as the browser, it has a feature "Shrink to fit":
    • If you are in Firefox 3.0+, go to "Page Setup". Do remember to delete the page title and footer via the "Page Setup"!
    • For Internet Explorer 7.0+, go to "Print Preview", there is an option to "Shrink to Fit".
  • There is a new way to enter Multi-pivots. You simply click and select the pivot elements (single / double / triple as applicable) and the system will add the link bonus, the brackets, etc automatically. Because the "link bonus" is calculated dynamically, if you remove a pivot, it will adjust itself automatically. You do not need to email me to create a new pivot combo anymore. :)
  • Balances with criterias (Difficulty 34). For lack of any actual FIG samples, here is how I recommend scripting it. (Please let me know if you see any official samples from FIG.) Select and click the correct start balance. Select and click the appropriate criteria (row 34). The description of the criteria is available if you click on the picture of the symbol in the selection list. The value of the difficulty will be start-element-value plus criteria-value added together. For now, add brackets or white-out as appropriate on the actual form.

    Quickstart

  • Briefy go through the tutorial or have someone who has use it before show you once.
  • Select your age category and apparatus.
  • Do a ficticious routine with just a leap or something, Use the ">" button to pop elements from the selection list in the middle onto the blank routine on the top.
  • Repeat and play with the apparatus difficulty section (D2).
  • Try to save the routine and close the browser. Then import your routine from where you saved it.
  • Insert elements at the top / middle / end of the routine via the ">>" "<<" buttons or simply clear and replace with a different element.
  • Use the navigational buttons at the bottom to hop to different sections of the selection list.
  • Some find it useful to print out the body element / apparatus element list and use a yellow highlighter first before actually finding an element through the screen. The printable element list from the website is in the same exact order as the selection list on the screen.
  • Have fun and good luck!

    Limitations

  • The program supports individual routines only. Groups are not supported.
  • The program is served over the internet through the browser - you have to be online to use it.
  • The program have close to 1000 little pictures and therefore a fast internet connection will make the experience so much more enjoyable.

Some may still find this old tutorial useful. It is here as a testimony of how similar it looks even after 8 years of code changes.
